Continental supplied its flagship product, the ContiSportContact 3, for the Speed of Sight challenge. They are standard production tyres which Continental engineers tested prior to the attempt to ensure they would withstand the test conditions up to 340km/h or 211mph. Specific tyre pressures have to be observed in order to avoid excess heat build up at the highest speeds.
The ContiSportContact 3 demonstrates how the tyre developers at Continental have managed to further raise the performance potential of their high-tech product creating optimum safety without compromising other performance aspects. Compared with the ContiSportContact 2, braking distances on both wet and dry roads were reduced by five per cent each, whilst aquaplaning protection was improved by six per cent. Rolling resistance and tyre wear on the ContiSportContact 3 were each reduced by five per cent. The ContiSportContact 3 is available in rim sizes of 17" and above. Last month, the 205/45R17 ContiSportContact 3 was awarded first place in evo magazine's 2010 tyre test.
